Mandovi Beach Cleanup Drive

Beach cleanup is considered to be very important because throwing trash on the beaches and into the ocean which is a better known pollution. When trash gets into the oceans, marine animals easily mistake it for food. It is observed that many deaths of marine animals resulted from marine debris/thrash.

In Ratnagiri, during the Ganesh Visarjan, Ganesh idols are immersed into the sea at various beaches. During the process, a lot of offerings are also immersed. Since many of idols are made up of Plaster of Paris which does not dissolve and the broken parts of the idol and offerings are brought back to the sea shore by waves. It is a very piteous situation.

With this view and due respect to holy occasion, the beaches need to be cleaned immediately. The students of Department of Electrical Engineering, Finolex Academy of Management and Technology took part in the beach cleanup drive every year.

This year, the drive was organized on Friday, 13 September, 2019 at 6.30am on Mandovi beach which is closed to Ratnagiri city. Usually, all major idols are immersed at this beach. 44 students of the department led by Prof. Sudhir Wamane cleaned the entire beach jointly with Jiddi Mountaineering team.
