ISR Activity – Beach Cleanup Drive at Aare Beach, Ratnagiri

Aare beach is just a short drive of around 12 kilometers from the city of Ratnagiri. The Aare and Ware beaches were formed ages ago due to the convergence of the mountain into the ocean. This one-of-a-kind phenomenon is indeed the epitome of beauty and serenity of nature and is a very popular tourist destination. But due to the increased tourist activity, the beach had become very dirty with a lot of waste and garbage.

The Department of MCA in association with the Gram panchayat of Aare Village conducted an ISR activity of Clean-up Drive at Aare Beach. The drive was aimed to remove all the non-biodegradable wastes like plastic covers, plastic, straws and rubber. Before disposal, the plastic waste was segregated and sent for recycling and the rest of the garbage was collected in the bags that were provided by the Grampanchayat. It was realized that a lot of non-biodegradable wastes and glass bottles were being thrown in the nearby areas as well as the entrance of the beach.

A total of 73 students of FYMCA and SYMCA participated in this drive and cleaned the beach successfully. Prof. T. V. Joshi, the HoD, Prof. H. U. Salvi, Prof. K. R . Bhosale, Prof. R. V. Kerkar, Prof. W. R. Parulekar and Prof. R V. Kotawadekar coordinated the cleaning drive successfully.

The cleaning brought a notable change in surrounding areas near the beach and was appreciated by the Sarpanch and members of the Gram panchayat.
