Distinguished Alumni Talk on Making Career in VLSI

Department of Electronics Engineering organized an alumni talk titled “Making Career in VLSI”, on 24th of July 2021, at 11 am, through online mode. Our distinguished alumni, Mr Sumit Apte, of batch 2011, gave the talk to students of Electronics Engineering and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering departments of FAMT.

Mr Sumit has experience of more than 9 years in Integrated Circuit Design(Chip Design from Netlist to GDS2 Physical Design Flow), which is the core domain of Electronics Engineering. For the past four years, he is working as a Lead Physical Design Engineer in Qualcomm, Bangalore, India, and he is into designing Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series chips. Mr Sumit had scored 18th rank in his final year examination at Mumbai University.

The objective of the Alumni Talk was that students could know the experience of his first job and the preparation he did for it, the way he improved his skills set and all opportunities he explored after his BE. He also discussed what the students should do to get a job in general and specifically in the VLSI domain and an approach to search for it.

In his talk, Mr Sumit made students aware of how India is the second-largest design hub for semiconductors after the USA and this is growing day by day, as automation is the basic requirement in every sector and it is possible using current state-of-art technologies. Electronics Engineering domain knowledge is the key requirement. He gave an overview of the VLSI Industry, career choices available in the VLSI domain, desired skill sets required for the new graduates, how to join VLSI and the most important why to join VLSI.

The talk was organized and coordinated by Prof. Vrishali V. Nimbalkar with the cooperation of Prof. Girish G. Bhide and from all the faculty members of the department. A total of 49 participants had joined the talk.
