Industrial Visit to Finolex Power Plant at Ranpar

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an industrial visit to Finolex Power Plant on 16th March 2024 and 30th March 2024 for the students of Third Year Mechanical Engineering. A total of 69 students, 2 faculty members and 1 staff member visited the plant.

The power plant located at Ranpar is a coal-based thermal power plant. The power plant supplies electricity to the PVC manufacturing unit of Finolex Industries. The rated output of the plant is 43 MW. Students visited the coal storage area at the beginning and then proceeded along the flow of coal to the boilers. During this, students observed the working of coal crushers and conveyor belts moving the coal. During the visit to the boiler, the electrostatic precipitator, and fly-ash collection unit too were shown to the students. In the turbine hall, students observed the working of the turbine and generator unit. The control unit of the power plant is also located in the turbine hall. Students got glimpses of the state-of-the-art control system that continuously monitors the operation of the plant.

The visit was organized with the support and guidance of Dr. Kaushal Prasad, Principal, FAMT and Dr. Milind Kirkire, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering. The entire visit was successfully coordinated by Prof Vidyasheel Bagade, Prof Shodhan Mayekar, and Dr. Kedar Bhide of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
