The Department of Chemical Engineering organized a Seminar on “Navigating the Challenges of Commissioning in the Chemical Industry on 7th August 2024. Mr Rakesh Khandare, an alumnus of the Chemical Engineering Department, 2016 Batch and currently working as a Commissioning Engineer in Aquatech Asia System Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai was invited to interact with Second, Third and Final Year Chemical Engineering students, with an objective of awareness about complexities involved in commissioning chemical plants, where safety, precision, and compliance are paramount.

The seminar was arranged in collaboration with the Association of Chemical Engineering Students (ACES) and began in the presence of the Head of the Department, Dr. Nitin Kanse and Dr. P. A. Giri. Mr. Rakesh Khandare shared his experience as a commissioning engineer who faced unique challenges, including handling hazardous materials, ensuring strict regulatory adherence, and optimizing processes for operational efficiency. He also discussed the essential competencies needed by an undergraduate chemical engineer, emphasizing how to leverage technical skills to succeed in the field. These competencies are particularly crucial in navigating the challenges of commissioning within the chemical industry, where engineers must combine their technical knowledge with problem-solving abilities to ensure safety, compliance, and efficiency in plant operations. Final-year Chemical Engineering students coordinated the event successfully. Ms. Shravani Madake hosted the program, and all faculty members of the Chemical Engineering Department were present for the seminar.
