Industrial Visit : Finolex Thermal Power Plant, Golap Ratnagiri

The Department of Electrical Engineering, FAMT Ratnagiri, organized an industrial visit to Finolex Industries Ltd., Golap on 18 August 2026 as part of the Power Plant Technology Laboratory (2225122). A total of 60 students participated in two batches. Students assembled at 9:00 AM, departed by bus at 9:20 AM, reached the industry at 9:50 AM, and completed gate entry at 10:00 AM.

The technical visit was conducted by Mr. Amol Gadre, who introduced students to the 43 MW Captive Power Plant, its operation, safety practices, and major equipment. Students first visited the switchyard, where they observed the industrial insulators, CTs, PTs, circuit breakers, power and distribution transformers, relays, and pressure relief valves. They subsequently observed the coal conveyor system, cooling tower, boiler, economizer, and chimney, gaining practical understanding of the thermal power generation process.

Students then visited the MCC and studied plant electrical distribution and control systems panels and their working. The generator section provided practical knowledge of synchronous generation, excitation, synchronisation, and power generation. Finally, students visited the DCS and SCADA control room, where the Yokogawa system was demonstrated for real-time monitoring and control of plant parameters.

The visit successfully bridged theoretical concepts with industrial practices and enhanced students’ understanding of power generation, protection, automation, safety, and plant operation.

The industrial visit was coordinated by Prof. M. N. Tagare with permission from the Department of Electrical Engineering. Prof. A. K. Sharma, Prof. N. V. Kelkar, Prof. D. Rajesh Kumar, and Laboratory Assistant Mr. Parshuram More accompanied the students on the visit to the industrial site. Their active involvement ensured proper coordination, student supervision, adherence to safety guidelines, and smooth conduct of the technical visit.
