Industrial Visit to M/s Finolex Power Plant, Ratnagiri

The Department of Electrical Engineering organized an industrial visit to the Finolex Power Plant, Ranpar, Ratnagiri, on 20th August 2026 for the students of Final Year Electrical Engineering.

The subject Power Plant Engineering was excluded from the revised Electrical Engineering curriculum introduced in 2019. With the objective of bridging this knowledge gap and providing students with practical exposure to the operation of a thermal power plant, the department organized this industrial visit.

A total of 69 students and 3 faculty members participated in the visit. The visit commenced with a safety documentary, which familiarized the students with the essential safety practices to be followed in an industry. Subsequently, the students were escorted for a detailed visit to various sections of the power plant.

During the visit, students gained practical exposure to important systems and equipment, including the coal handling system, cooling water system, feed water system, economiser, air preheater, ID and FD fans, and Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) system. The students were also introduced to the steam turbine and alternator system, excitation/field system, and SCADA-based control room. The functioning and significance of each system in the overall operation of the thermal power plant were explained in detail.

Shri Amol Garde and Shri Rakesh Hardikar, officers at Finolex Power Plant, guided the students throughout the visit and explained various aspects of plant operation. They also patiently answered the queries raised by the students, making the visit highly informative and interactive.

The industrial visit was coordinated by Prof. M. N. Tagare, Dr. Sandeep Chawda, and Prof. Priya Potdar.

The visit concluded with a vote of thanks to Shri Amol Garde and Shri Rakesh Hardikar for their valuable guidance and support. Prof. M. N. Tagare also expressed sincere gratitude to Shri Madhav Salaskar, Manager–HR, and the management of Finolex Industries Limited, Ratnagiri, for their cooperation and hospitality extended during the visit.
