Workshop on Protecting Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & IP Management for Start-ups
Department of MCA, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), FAMT organized a workshop on “Protecting Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & IP Management for Start-ups” on 17th April 2026 at FAMT campus.
The primary objective of the workshop was to create awareness among students and faculty about the significance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and their role in fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and start-up growth. The session aimed to provide insights into various forms of IPR, such as patents, trademarks, and copyrights, along with effective IP management strategies for start-ups.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Vinayak Bharadi and Prof. Ravindra Kerkar, who served as the Resource Persons for the session. They shared their expertise on the importance of protecting innovative ideas and guided participants through the processes involved in securing intellectual property. They also highlighted real-world examples and practical approaches to managing IP in start-up ecosystems.
The session covered key topics including:
- Introduction to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
- Types of IPR: Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights
- Importance of IPR in Start-ups
- Procedures for filing copyrights.
- Strategies for effective IP management
The workshop witnessed active participation from students and faculty members, making it highly interactive and informative. A total of 65 students, along with faculty members, attended the session. Participants gained a deeper understanding of how intellectual property protection contributes to innovation and business success.
The event was successfully coordinated by Prof. Gousiya A. Khanche, with the support of faculty members and student volunteers. Overall, the workshop proved to be a valuable learning experience and contributed significantly to strengthening the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem at FAMT.
