Industrial Visit to M/s T J Marine Products Pvt. Ltd., Ratnagiri

An industrial visit was organized to M/s T. J. Marine Products Pvt. Ltd., Ratnagiri on 24 January 2026 for the final-year Electrical Engineering students. A total of 27 students were accompanied by a faculty member and a staff member for the visit.

The visit commenced with an introductory session by Shri Vikrant Pawar, Production Manager, who provided an overview of the organization, its product range, and the scale of operations. It was followed by an expert session conducted by Shri Ashish Kolekar, an alumnus of FAMT and presently working as Assistant Manager at T. J. Marine Products Pvt. Ltd. He explained the overall electrical facilities and infrastructure of the plant.

To ensure effective and personalized learning, the students were divided into four groups, and separate trainers were assigned to each group. During the visit, students studied the indoor transformer, its constructional parts, substation metering, and protection schemes. The Diesel Generator (DG) set was demonstrated, including its operation and protection systems.

The students were introduced to various protection and measuring devices such as MCBs, MCCBs, relays, SMPS, multimeters, and tong testers, along with their working principles and industrial applications. The importance of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and their role in speed control of motors was demonstrated. Motor testing procedures, the rewinding process, and constructional details of a squirrel cage induction motor were explained through an open motor demonstration.

The visit also covered the significance of SCADA-based plant control, cables, cable trays, glands, and lugs, and their practical applications. The Power Control Centre (PCC) and internal power distribution system of the plant were explained, including the operation of the On Load Tap Changer (OLTC). Further, the Automatic Power Factor Correction (APFC) panel, its working and benefits were demonstrated. The students were also introduced to the Energy Management System, emphasizing its role in monitoring and improving energy efficiency. Shri Ashish Kolekar answered all the doubts asked by the students during the visit.

The visit was coordinated by Shri Ashish Kolekar, Assistant Manager. The visit concluded with a vote of thanks to Shri Vikrant Pawar (Prod. Man.), Shri Nainish Lakeshri (HR Manager), and Shri Arun Kundar (AGM) for granting permission and extending necessary support. The visit was organized by Prof. M. N. Tagare, Associate Professor, and Shri Parshuram More, Laboratory Assistant, who accompanied the students throughout the visit.
