An Industry Expert Session on Substation Equipment and Protective Schemes

The Department of Electrical Engineering arranged an Industry Expert Session on Substation Equipment and Protection Relays on 04th April 26 for the students of third-year Electrical Engineering. Shri Ashutosh Tambe, Dy. Executive. Engineer, MSETCL, Ratnagiri was the speaker.

At the beginning of the session, Shri Asutosh was felicitated by HOD Dr J.J. Mane, and Prof Priya Potdar explained event objectives and event outcomes to the attendees. During the session, Shri Ashutosh Tambe explained the Single Line Diagram (SLD) of a typical substation and elaborated various substation equipment such as Lightning Arresters (LA), Circuit Breakers (CB), Current Transformers (CT), Potential Transformers (PT), isolators, PLCC systems, etc., along with their ratings and related calculations. He also discussed the types of conductors used for transmission lines of varying lengths and capacities. Further, he provided insights into different protection devices such as MCBs, MCCBs, and ACBs, including their characteristics and applications. Towards the end of the session, he explained the calculations of transformer parameters such as actual impedance, rated short-circuit current, steady-state current in per unit (PU), voltage drop, and rated short-circuit MVA. He also shared valuable information regarding transformer construction and its various parts.

Shri Ashutosh Tambe satisfied the students in question answer session. A total of 28 students and 02 faculty members participated in this program. Prof. Priya Potdar and Prof. M.N. Tagare were the event coordinators. Prof. M. N. Tagare extended a vote of thanks to speaker and attendees.
