A Seminar on “Know Your Rights: Ensuring Safety and Dignity”

The Internal Committee (ICC) of Finolex Academy of Management and Technology, Ratnagiri, successfully organised an awareness seminar titled “Know Your Rights: Ensuring Safety and Dignity” on 28th March 2026 at the IT Seminar Hall.

The session was delivered by Advocate Sandhya Sukhatankar, an eminent legal expert with over 25 years of professional experience, who provided deep insights into the concept, types, and legal implications of sexual harassment, along with preventive measures under the POSH Act.

The seminar was formally introduced and addressed by Dr Geetanjali Nilesh Sawant, Presiding Officer of the Internal Committee, who highlighted the importance of creating a safe and respectful academic environment. She emphasised that the session aimed not only to spread awareness but also to empower participants with knowledge about their rights, complaint mechanisms, and the role of the Internal Committee (ICC). She also encouraged open dialogue and assured that the committee is committed to ensuring fairness, confidentiality, and justice.

Key Objectives of the Seminar:

  • To create awareness among girl students and female faculty members about the concept, types, and legal implications of sexual harassment.
  • To educate participants about their rights and the complaint mechanisms under the POSH Act.

The session witnessed active participation from a total of 104 students and 03 faculty members. It proved to be highly informative and interactive, enabling attendees to recognise inappropriate behaviour, build confidence to report incidents, and contribute towards a safe and inclusive environment.

The seminar was organised successfully with the valuable cooperation and support of Prof. Darshana Bapat, Prof. Gayatri Kirkire, Prof. Pranav Thakur, Mr Gajanana Targaonkar, along with student representatives Soha Ansari (TE CSE AI & ML), Devyani Ayare (TE IT), and the boys’ representative, Manas Bhagwat (TE Mechanical).

Notably, Advocate Sandhya Sukhatankar graciously declined the honorarium, emphasising her commitment to social welfare and awareness.
