Industrial Visit to Finolex Industries Ltd. (FIL), Ratnagiri

The Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering organized an Industrial Visit to Finolex Industries Ltd. (FIL), Ratnagiri, on March 27, 2026. This visit was specifically arranged for students of the Third-Year batch to provide them with a first-hand look at high-end industrial instrumentation and automation systems within a live plant environment.

The primary objective of this initiative was to bridge the gap between academic theory and industrial practice by exposing students to large-scale control systems and professional engineering standards. A total of 31 students participated in this industry visit.

The visit focused heavily on the operations within the Instrumentation Department, where students were introduced to the practical deployment of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) frameworks. The technical team at FIL demonstrated how field instruments interface with centralised control rooms to manage complex manufacturing processes in real-time. Students observed the intricate maintenance of high-precision instruments and learned about the critical role of sensor integration in ensuring the efficiency and safety of a 24/7 operational facility.

In addition to the technical demonstrations, the students were briefed on the rigorous safety protocols and professional ethics required in a heavy-industry setting. The interactive nature of the visit allowed the participants to relate their classroom learning of Industrial Automation and Electronic Instrumentation to actual industrial challenges. This experience, organized under the guidance of HOD Dr. Sharada V. Chougule and coordinated by Dr. Saurabh S. Athalye and Prof. Gauri S. Bhosale, served as a significant learning milestone that enhanced the students’ technical perspective and prepared them for future roles in the core engineering sector.
