Industry Expert Lecture on Substation Equipment and Protection Relays

The Department of Electrical Engineering arranged an Industry Expert Lecture on Substation Equipment and Protection Relays on 18th March 25 for the students of third-year Electrical Engineering. Shri Ashutosh Tambe Asst. Engineer, MSETCL, Ratnagiri was the speaker.

During the session, he explained the SLD of a typical substation and different substation equipment like LA, CB, CT, PT, isolators, PLCC, etc., as well as their ratings and the calculations involved. He also discussed the types of conductors used for transmission lines of different lengths and capacities. He further discussed different protection devices like MCB, MCCB and ACBs and their characteristics. In the end, he explained calculations of transformer parameters like actual impedance, rated SC current, steady state current in PU, voltage drop and rated short circuit MVA.

At the beginning of the lecture, Shri Asutosh was felicitated by HOD Dr. J.J Mane and he explained the objectives of this program. Shri Ashutosh Tambe satisfied the students in question question-and-answer session.

A total of 44 students and 02 faculty members participated in this program. Prof. M.N. Tagare was the event coordinator. Prof. Priya Potdar and Lab assistant. Shri Swapnil Mohite assisted him in conducting the program. Prof. Priya Potdar extended a vote of thanks to the speaker and attendees.
