A Seminar on ‘Safer Internet Day 2026 Seminar Smart Tech, Safe Choices – Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI’
The Safer Internet Day 2026 Seminar titled “Smart Tech, Safe Choices – Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI” was conducted smoothly by Prof. Sprooha Athalye, Assistant Professor from the CSE (AI & ML) Department. A total of 43 Second Year (SE) students attended the session.
Prof. Sprooha Athalye explained the significance of Safer Internet Day and elaborated on this year’s theme, highlighting the importance of making informed and responsible digital decisions. The session covered important aspects such as understanding digital footprints and how online activities leave permanent traces. Students were made aware of common cyber threats, including phishing, malware, and identity theft. The importance of cyber hygiene practices, such as creating strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and avoiding suspicious links, was strongly emphasized. The responsible use of social media was also discussed, encouraging students to avoid oversharing personal information and to maintain digital discipline.
Special attention was given to the risks associated with Artificial Intelligence, including deepfakes, misinformation, privacy concerns, and plagiarism. Prof. Sprooha Athalye emphasized the ethical and safe usage of AI tools in academics, explaining that Artificial Intelligence should assist learning and support decision-making, but should never replace human judgment or ethical responsibility.
The seminar also highlighted the Government of India initiatives, such as CyberShikshak and CyberYuva for students. These platforms provide free e-learning courses on cybersecurity and digital safety, encouraging continuous learning and awareness among participants.
The seminar concluded with a strong message that internet safety is a shared responsibility. By making smart technological choices and practising good cyber hygiene, individuals can help build a safer, more responsible digital society. The event was successfully conducted and effectively achieved its objective of spreading awareness on Safer Internet Day 2026.
