Swadeshi Udyamita Divas
Shahid Babu Genu Said was born in a poor farmer family in Mahalunge Padwal on 1st January 1908, Ambegaon Taluka. He was an active participant in the protests, organized by Indian independence activists, against the import of foreign-made clothes. Babu Genu was not formally educated, yet he understood the symbiotic link between geopolitics and geo-economics. He knew that economics was the driving force of British Rule. Therefore, to rule out the economic dominance of the British Raj, he stood out as a strong endorser of swadeshi. In remembrance of the supreme sacrifice of his life, Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM) is established on 22nd November 1991. This movement helped in spreading awareness among the masses about the importance of Swadeshi as a way of life.
Keeping this noble cause in mind, the Department of Electrical Engineering arranged “Swadeshi Udyamita Divas” on 12th December 2022 in association with Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, Mumbai, Konkan Region. The program was organized for Direct second-year admitted students of the electrical engineering department. The objective of the program was to create awareness about the usage of swadeshi goods in our daily routine.
The session started with an address to the student by Dr Jayant J. Mane, Head of Electrical Engineering. He emphasized the usage of swadeshi products. He explained the importance of Swadeshi life as essential for the total economic independence of our nation. Further, he elaborated an exhaustive list of swadeshi products and encouraged the students to use the same and contribute towards the nation’s economy. A total of 20 students from the direct second-year class of the electrical engineering department participated in this program. Prof. S. H. Mhabadi and Prof. S. S. Wamane coordinated the program successfully.
