Alumni Talk on Career Path and Current Technologies
Department of Electronics Engineering had organized an Alumni talks, as a part of Silver Jubilee celebrations of our FAMT College.
Our 2002 batch passed out alumni Dr. Amol Ambardekar gave a talk on “Career Path and Current Technologies”. The talk was organized on 23rd Feb 2021, at 11.30 am, for the students of Electronics Engineering by the department. The objective of the Alumni Talk was that, students can get to hear Amol’s experience of making his career, students get to interact with the Alumni, get to know what industry expects from a fresh graduate, what kind of research is going on in topnotch industries and take his guidance in structuring their own career.
For past four years till date, Dr. Amol is working as a Senior Scientist at Microsoft, Redmond, Washington, US. This is indeed a remarkable achievement. He has done MS in Physics, MS in Computer Science and PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from University of Nevada, Reno. He owns 20 patents and has good number of publications in International Conferences and Journals.
Amol began his talk by giving an overview of his academics and mentioned that he was very determined and focused of doing his MS while he was in FAMT itself during his third year of engineering. He prepared for his GRE, TOFEL right when he was in his final year. Now he is into Computer Science domain and is working in Computer Vision field. Amol gave an overview of his few of the projects that he has done, like Bing vision(Object recognition, QRcode/Barcode tracking), Face recognition, Hololense, his involment in building the first mobile DNN chip for Hololense which did semantic labeling and Hand Tracking, Azure Object Anchors, etc,. He also talked about Hologram, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality and what is Google, Microsoft and Apple companies focusing on currently.
The later half session was an interactive session where students asked their doubts related to what career to choose, also about patent claming and many more. Also students asked about what was his experience of doing his MS, what did he do first? When he landed in US how did he search place to stay? What is the living expenditure there?, and so on. Amol advised students to be clear on their engineering basics, during the interview listen to the question properly and then formulate the answer and have a grit to slove problems and to achieve your goal.
45 students participated in this talk. The talk was organized and coordinated by Prof. Vrishali V Nimbalkar under the guidance of HOD of Electronics Engineering Department Prof. Girish Bhide an In-charge HOD, Prof Ashish Vartak.
