FAMT Students Team Qualified for the Final Round of Manipal Hackathon M#23
The Manipal Hackathon M#23, the flagship event of MIT’s technical fest, TechTatva, took place with the theme “Empowering Ingenuity.” Our team from Computer Science and Engineering (AI & ML) Department FAMT, had the privilege of participating in this national-level competition, which commenced with an online round on September 18, 2023. During the initial phase participants presented their innovative ideas via PowerPoint presentations. Out of approximately 150-200 submissions from all over India, only 30 teams advanced to the second round, and our team was the sole representative from Maharashtra, with most other participants hailing from Karnataka.
The second round, held from October 19 to October 21, 2023, was a 36-hour offline coding challenge at the MIT Manipal campus (Udupi, Karnataka). This phase tested the technical skills and ability to apply problem-solving approaches in real-time scenarios. The team’s project, A Water Supply Network Monitoring System, was developed and presented during this round. Judging criteria for the event included the uniqueness of the idea, the feasibility of the solution, and marketing and media ideas. Despite not winning a prize, the participation in the Manipal Hackathon’23 was an invaluable learning experience. The hackathon provided students with the opportunity to develop their technical skills, think creatively, and collaborate effectively as a team.
The Hackathon team expressed their views as follows “We are grateful to college and teachers who inspired us, guided us, and allowed us to participate. The experience gained and the knowledge acquired during the hackathon will undoubtedly aid us in future, helping us to innovate and create solutions that can make a positive impact on society”. The initiative to participate in the Hackathon was taken by Prof. Yogesh Gajmal and Prof. Onkar Dike of the IT Department of FAMT.
