Workshop on Energy Audit

Workshop on Energy Audit

A two day’s Workshop on Energy Auditing was organized in the department of Electrical Engineering from 15th to 16th January 2018 to create awareness among Electrical Engineering students. Mr. Ajitkumar Datar, Certified Energy auditor, INDESCO, Mumbai and Mrs. A. A. Datar Lecturer and Lawyer, Thane Law College, Mumbai were invited. Mr. Datar has conducted 400+ audits in India and abroad. He is a certified Energy Auditor of BEE and has 25 Years of field experience.  A total of 74 B.E. Students participated in the workshop.

The per capita energy consumption of India is increasing at a very faster rate. There is a sharp increase in the industrial load in the last two decades.  But the increase in installed capacity is very less as compared to the increasing demand. Because of this, we are facing energy crunch. In order to curb the gap between the demand and supply, the Government of India has enacted ‘Energy Conservation Act 2001’. As per this law, energy audit of all the industries is mandatory. During audit, energy saving opportunities are looked for and various measures are suggested to reduce the energy consumption.

During this workshop, the students learnt the concept and procedure of energy auditing, opportunities of energy saving in motors, transformers, illumination etc. Case studies were also discussed through which exact energy saving calculations and payback analysis was demonstrated.  Actual Energy Audit of illumination and AC was also carried out. Prof. M. N. Tagare organized this workshop with the help of Prof. Sudhir Wamane and Prof. Vaibhav Sansare.
